What does "BlockBuster" refers?
This is a word which is usually associated with a hit movie or a highly successful book.Originally 'blockbuster' had nothing to do with movies or books. Believe it or not, the word was first used during World War II to refer to bombs.
'Blockbuster' was Air Force slang to refer to large bombs weighing as much as 8000 pounds. These bombs were so powerful that they were capable of destroying an entire block city. Hence, 'blockbuster'.
Once the war ended, the people in advertising the popularized the word.
Here are few examples :
- Have you seen the latest blockbuster from Bollywood ?
- They are predicting that his new book will be a blockbuster.
